Difference between ROM and RAM

These are both the chips which are used in computers for read any data. There is one big difference between a ROM chip and a RAM chip is A ROM chip can work without a constant source of power to retain the information stored on it, whereas a RAM chip can do work only with a constant source of power to retain the information.

Another difference is that RAM is faster than ROM when it comes to running programs.

RAM is temporary computer memory used for performing functions during use, while ROM contains permanently written data that cannot be overwritten.

When a computer is turned on and programs are run, their information is stored in RAM for better efficiency and speed.

However, any information stored in the RAM chip is lost as soon as the computer is turned off.

ROM chips can also be found in computers, to store the programming needed to begin the initial boot up process when turning on a computer on the other hand RAM refers to random access memory,

which is highly volatile temporary information that allows the CPU easy access to particular programs, while the computer is running.

ROM stands for read-only memory and contains startup application information. It is non-volatile memory, meaning it cannot be written to. RAM chips, on the other hand, are used in computers and other devices to store information of currently running programs.

ROM chips are commonly found in gaming system cartridges such as the original Nintendo, Gameboy, and Sega Genesis. They store game programming and are read by the game console when the cartridge is inserted.

RAM is a type of memory that can be accessed non-sequentially.

Non-volatile storage is essential for starting up computers and similar devices.

RAM can only store volatile information, meaning that any data stored in RAM is lost when power is cut. In short, ROM is non-volatile, while RAM is volatile.

The oldest ROM Type storage media can be dated back to 1932with drum memory. Today, ROM Type storage media is still used and continues to be improved upon for better performance and storage capacity.
